The Fife Trojans are in the midst of an exciting post-season run on several fronts. The boys’ and girls’ basketball teams are still competing in the District 2/3 tournaments, while boys’ and girls’ wrestling teams will be sending grapplers to the Mat Classic at the Tacoma Dome on Friday, Feb. 20.

After suffering a mid-season slump, the Trojan boys have taken care of business on the basketball court. Fife entered district on Feb. 12 against Evergreen and pulled away late to secure a 51-43 victory. In the quarterfinal contest, the Trojans outscored rival Clover Park 20-9 in the fourth quarter to secure a 58-46 win and not only a berth into the districts semifinals, but a guaranteed berth into the regional tournament.

Fife (15-7) will play rival Washington (17-5) at Henry Foss High School on Thursday, Feb. 19 at 6 p.m. The winner of the game will play for the district championship on Saturday, Feb. 21 at Henry Foss. Tip-off is at 8 p.m. The loser of the semifinal will play for the third or fourth seed to the regional tournament on Saturday, Feb. 21 at Curtis High School. Tip-off is at 6:30 p.m.

The Trojan girls opened district play against Kingston and held on for a tight 42-39 win. It would be a different story for Fife in the quarterfinals as they faced a battle-tested Liberty squad from Renton and lost 65-32. Fife moved to the consolation bracket where they met rival Washington on Monday, Feb. 16 in a loser-out game. The Trojans handled the Patriots 39-29 in a defensive struggle. The win moves the Trojan girls just one win away from a trip to the 2A regional tournament.

Fife (16-7) will play North Kitsap (13-8) at Wilson High School on Wednesday, Feb. 18. If the Trojans win, they will play either Franklin Pierce or River Ridge on Saturday, Feb. 21 at 1 p.m. for the fifth or sixth seed to regionals. Tip-off is at 1 p.m.

The Fife boys’ wrestling team is sending three grapplers to the Mat Classic. Freshman Jacob Flores finished second at the 2A Region 2 tournament and will face another freshman, Jake Freeman from Clarkston in the 106-pound class. They will square-off at 10 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 20. Senior Zach Volk won the regional championship and will face sophomore Reese Jones from Othello in the 145-pound class. They will square-off at 11:44 a.m. Friday morning. Senior Spencer Barnes finished fourth at the regionals and will face junior Anthony Ruiz from Othello in the 195-pound class. They will square-off at 1:04 p.m.

The Trojan girls’ wrestling team will be represented by freshman Niki Abaglo who will face senior Belen Torres from Sunnyside in the 190-pound class. They will square-off at 1:12 p.m. Friday afternoon.
