While the area comes to terms with the reality that there is true evil in the world as we absorb the emotional toll of the murders of two young boys at the hand of their own father, it seems only fitting to take time for reflection.
Charlie Powell, 7, and Braden Powell, 5, died when their father Josh Powell locked them in a house, hit them with a hatchet and torched the home in a murder-suicide that has brought more national attention to an already twisted story that started with the disappearance of Susan Cox Powell two years ago from West Valley City, Utah. Josh Powell was the lone person of interest in her disappearance. The Utah investigation continues, as does the local crime scene in Graham.
While new details pour out daily during the coming weeks, take some time to remember that there is still good in the world. Yes, there is evil. But there is also good, and it can be found in the faces of friends and family or even after a simple hello to a stranger walking by in the street or while standing shoulder to shoulder in an elevator.
While everyone should remain vigilant against the forces of evil, looking for signs that things just do not seem right, that state of alert against potential trouble should not create blinders against the good in this world.
