Letter to the Editor: Milton Library Space

Dear Editor,

Kate Burrows wrote in your paper last August about the library space being vacant at the time and that HUD people were going by old rules because no one could find the original paperwork. That space was used by the library for 30 years. You'd think that would take care of any qualifications for that contract; and that now Milton should be able to do whatever they need to do with that space.

Things have changed in 30 years. The situation is different now. Our police are our first line of defense. And what do we give them? Three work spaces in a small room, that are not only for filling out reports but are also for a break room and kitchen. The kitchen, by the way, only consists of a small microwave oven. They have to get any water they need out of the bathroom.

You people in Milton should demand better for these guys that put their lives on the line for us every working day. If the space wasn't available they'd make do; but it is available. Not only that but the policemen have said they would do the work to fix it up on their off time. We should probably remind HUD that our taxes helped to fund their projects, and it's time to let go and let Milton take care of their own.
