Knitting, crocheting and looming for a purpose is the heart of the Seniors with Hooks & Sticks ladies group at Mill Ridge Village. Seniors with Hooks & Sticks began with a bang, knowing that the ladies wanted to make a difference for someone (or a lot of someones) and it is the heart and soul of their weekly gatherings. The ladies chose the Tacoma Rescue Mission because every person deserves to be warm… and so it began.

According to the Tacoma Rescue Mission itself, “The staff of the Tacoma Rescue Mission pledges to do everything possible to help the hurting and homeless. It was our commitment when our work began in 1912 and it continues to drive us.”

In 2015, Mill Ridge Village decided to help with that commitment the Tacoma Rescue Mission made over 100 years ago. Seniors with Hooks & Sticks donated 131 hats and nine scarves to help keep people warm this winter. Of course, it is the group’s goal for 2016 to surpass that number but even better would be to help reduce homelessness in our community.
