Local Edgewood water provider Mt. View-Edgewood Water Company is planning big for the city’s projected population rates over the next 30 years. For the past seven months, the business has been working on expanding its facilities to accommodate an additional influx of citizens that will join the city over the next three decades.
The building was last modified in 1989, on the basis of a 25-year projection plan that ended up being exceeded. During that time, Mt. View Water served 2,324 metered connections, and today the company serves 2,968 connections, a number that will only get bigger as more and more citizens migrate to Edgewood
“We’re looking at a 30-year window using the city’s projection for growth. It’s a one time project to do a building for the next 30 years,” Manager Jackie Masters said.
These plans include accounting for the development of 425 new homes, 960 new apartments and various new commercial buildings.
The upgrades to the facility account for the expected population growth in Edgewood, as well as modern advancements in technology and code compliance. The seven-month project has had minimal effect on customers, as the company was able to work out of a portable office while the upgrades were being constructed. The final finishing touches are being put on now and very soon the team of seven manning the portable work station will be able to move in to the more spacious facility with a ribbon cutting on April 7 for those involved with the project.
Next month, on May 16, the company will invite the public to check out where their water comes from with an open house at the new facility from 10 a.m. to noon. The project was expected to take a few more months, but was completed with plenty of time and money to spare.
“We finished so early and so far under budget. We’re very proud,” Masters said.
