The new year is a herald for many things in the city of Milton. Some good, some bad, but like life and death, one of these events is always certain: tax season. A thing few people enjoy, taxes can indeed be a pain to get done before the April 15 deadline.
Luckily, as has been the case for the past few years, Miltonites will have some help. AARP volunteers certified by the IRS will provide free income tax services in Milton for the 2016 tax year. The service will be provided at the Milton Activity Center, 1000 Laurel St., on Tuesday mornings from 8:30-11:30 a.m. from Feb. 7 through April 11. This service will be walk-in; no appointment is needed. The service will focus on seniors but anyone is invited to come in and get some help from volunteers working extremely hard to make sure their neighbors are prepared for tax season.
“Thousands of dedicated volunteers around the country spend untold hours in December and January to become familiar with changes in the tax law, to satisfy AARP training requirements and to pass the IRS certification tests. In Milton we are very fortunate to have an experienced team of counselors who truly enjoy working with people,” organizer Bob Rawson said.
The service has been a part of Milton for several years now, with services this year being expanded through April 11.
Citizens can get tax help at various AARP locations, but the staff in Milton, as can be expected, is one of the friendliest you can find around – a warm, engaging place to make taxes a little bit easier to deal with.
“You can get excellent service at any of the AARP sites including electronic submission of your return, fast acknowledgement from the IRS, and a speedy refund if you select direct deposit into your bank account – all at no cost. But in Milton, you can even get a free cup of coffee and a snack while you wait,” Rawson said.
For more information, visit the Milton Activity Center between Feb. 7 and April 11. Amended returns and prior year returns may also be done, time permitting.
