NO FOOLIN'....WE'RE SERIOUS about water safety! East Pierce Fire and Rescue, Bonney Lake Police Department and the Gordon Family YMCA are teaming up to sponsor April Pools Day, a free family water safety event from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 30 at the Gordon Family YMCA - 16101 64th St. E., Sumner.

The first two hours will include water safety instruction, activities and prizes followed by an open swim with the firefighters, police officers and Y staff. Activities will be geared toward children ages 7-12. An adult must accompany children age seven and younger.

Call the fire department at (253) 863-1800 during regular business hours for more information. YMCA membership is NOT required to attend this free event!

Children will rotate through six educational activity stations where they will observe a skill and then demonstrate it. Each activity teaches a unique skill, ranging from techniques to help a swimmer in distress to knowing the symptoms of cold water incapacitation.

Wearing a life jacket is the most important part of water safety. East Pierce Fire and Rescue offers discount life jacket sales and free life jacket loaners.
