During the March 3 Fife City Council meeting, recognition was given to Fife High School winter sports and the great achievements the student athletes have made this year. “All the teams this year provided a high level of competition in every sport in every level,” said Fife Municipal Judge Kevin Ringus, who was presenting the recognition that night as one of the Fife High alumni on city staff. He introduced the coaches and some of the players who could attend the meeting. A few of the athletes spoke briefly to the council in thanks for having them there that evening, including senior wrestler Zach Volk who took first place at this year’s state tournaments.
“Last year, my mom passed away so I dedicated this season to her so I wanted to go out and give it my best,” he said. “I just tried my best to…be that person that the freshmen and incoming new kids could look up to so that Fife can have a future in wrestling that’s still strong like it used to be.”
