KAINAN LANDHOLM BATTLES A WILSON PLAYER FOR POSSESSION OF THE BALL DURING FIFE’S WIN THIS WEEK.

The Fife High boys soccer team scored an impressive 3-2 win against previously undefeated Wilson in a match earlier this week at Surprise Lake soccer field.

In handing the Rams their first defeat of the season, the Trojans improved to 4-2-1 as they head into the thick of their league play, where they are considered a serious contender for the league title.

“This is the best team we’ve had since I’ve been here,” said Fife coach Tony Crudo.

“You wouldn’t have known from watching that game that we had only two seniors on the field. The younger players are working well together.”

The Trojans had shown a lot of offense in some of its previous games, but going up against a good Narrows League team gave the team a sense of how they would match up against strong competition.

“We went into that game knowing we were going to get a real challenge and we were not surprised at how good Wilson was, and were very happy to come away with a win against a team of that caliber,” said Fife coach Tony Crudo.

Senior forward Jesus Esqivel scored two goals for the Trojans and junior midfielder Kainan Landholm scored one.

The Fife varsity tennis team is getting a big lift from its doubles teams as the season gets underway.

In three matches coming into this week, the doubles teams have dominated. In six matches the doubles teams have lost a mere total of 11 games.

Fife won its first match of the season March 22 against Vashon, 3-2. Haley Shaw and Rachel Knight won their match, 6-2-6-0, while Caitlin Schille and Michiko Araki won, 6-1, 6-2. Ghee-hee Yang won her singles match, 6-3, 6-2.

In a suspended match against Washington on March 26, the doubles teams had completed their matches before the suspension with Shaw and Knight winning, 6-0, 6-1, and Schille and Araki winning 6-0, 6-0.

Last week, the doubles team of Shaw and Araki won, 6-0, 6-1, while Kristi Vogel and Alyssa Gendron won

6-1, 6-3. Knight and Yang won their singles matches, as well, in the 4-1 team win.

“We’ve got a little bit of experience, especially at doubles, and we’ve got some young players who we expect to see coming along as the season progresses,” said coach Mark Knight.
