Fife’s Mayor Pro Tem submitted a letter of resignation on Feb. 23, following a regularly scheduled city council meeting.

Cedric ‘Butch’ Brooks cites an imminent job promotion as his reason for stepping down from his position on the council. Brooks has been the Vice President of Woolworth & Company, a construction firm in Tacoma.

“In a world of both politics and business, it is crucial to maintain a high level of credibility and respect,” Brooks wrote in a statement released by the city on Feb. 24. “After agonizing deliberations, I felt that this course of action was the only real path that could be taken.”

Brooks was elected to a four-year term on the the Fife City Council in Nov. 2007. His resignation officially took effect Feb. 24.

City Manager Steve Worthington says the city expects to begin the process of filling the council position next week.

“We will miss Butch,” Worthington said in a statement released by the city. “He has made significant contributions to the city in the two years he has been on Fife council.”
