DEPUTY MAYOR MIKE KELLEY, COUNCIL MEMBERS DAVE OLSON, STEVE COPE, STATE DIRECTOR OF RURAL DEVELOPMENT MARIO VILLANEUVA, MAYOR JEFF HOGAN, COUNCIL MEMBERS PAUL CROWLEY, DARYL EIDINGER AND DONNA O’RAVEZ (LEFT TO RIGHT) HOLD THE SHOVELS SYMBOLIC OF THE CONSTRUCTION WORK BEGUN OUTSIDE OF CITY HALL JAN. 13.

After years of discussion and planning, construction has officially begun on phase one of Edgewood’s sanitary sewer line. Construction crews broke ground at the pump station sites Jan. 5, and so far more than 1,000 feet of linear sewer lines have been set. Edgewood City Council hosted a ceremonial groundbreaking event Jan. 13 at City Hall to commemorate the long-awaited construction with project partners and local politicians.

Night construction across Meridian Avenue began

Jan. 25.

The first phase of the project will provide sewer access to 30 percent of Edgewood’s population, and the approximately $20 million project will be paid off through a local improvement district. A sanitary sewer line is hoped to encourage commercial development in Edgewood, generating more revenues for the city of more than 10,000 residents over time.
