Mountain View exceeds outreach goals

VOLUNTEERS IN THE CLOTHING ROOM ARE PREPARING FOR DISTRIBUTION. A grand total of 1,814 items were given away to families by the Edgewood FISH Food Bank.

Volunteers at Mountain View Community Center (MVCC) in Edgewood have worked hard to ensure families in need will have a happy holiday this season. The center has wrapped up its second annual Toys for Tots drive with much support from the community. In conjunction with this event, MVCC also decided to host its own separate Christmas Outreach program, to assist families of the Edgewood FISH Food Bank. Volunteers distributed clothing and toys and prepared a turkey meal. Jessie Holden, community coordinator for MVCC, said during both events volunteers logged more than 700 hours and served 287 families or 973 individuals.

MVCC recognizes that it could not have met its goals this year without generous support from the community and volunteers. The MVCC staff would like to say a very special thank you to their partners who helped make these events a success: Mountain View Lutheran Church and Sunday School, Mt. Rainier Chapter for Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, Arrow Lumber, Edgewood Hillwilly’s Jeep Club, Milton Albertsons, Milton Safeway, University Place Refuge, Mission Woods Presbyterian Church, Calvary Community Church, Carter’s at the Supermall, Toys for Tots, Edgewood Fire Department, Fife Police Department, Superior Linen Service, Mountain View Lutheran Knitters, Cavalry Christmas Ensemble, Hot Strings Fiddlers Group, Mountain View Elementary School and Brooklake Christian School.
