Pierce County auditor candidate Julie Anderson kicked off her campaign on June 25 at the Poodle Dog Restaurant in Fife. Close to 100 elected officials, community leaders and citizens from around Pierce County attended to support Anderson in her race.

“I am thankful for the support that each and every person here tonight has given to my campaign,” Anderson said. “We had a great turnout with people in attendance who represented pockets all over Pierce County. Having a strong base of demonstrated supporters will be imperative to winning this election.”

Anderson emphasized how her nonpartisan experience on the Tacoma City Council has prepared her to bring integrity to the Auditor’s Office without politics influencing services.

“I am excited for the opportunity to serve the citizens of Pierce County as their next auditor,” Anderson said. “The voters of Pierce County spoke loud and clear when they made the auditor a nonpartisan position. Pierce County deserves fair and practical leadership that is directly accountable to the voters – not political parties.”

Pierce County Execu-tive Pat McCarthy, Metro Parks Commissioner Ryan Mello and Tacoma City Councilmember Jake Fey all spoke to Anderson’s abilities, saying why she is the best person for the office.

McCarthy, who served as auditor before being elected to executive in 2008, described Anderson’s nonpartisanship, innovation with tight budgets and involvement with local nonprofit organizations as reasons why she will be a successful auditor.

“Julie has a set of skills that are necessary for this position,” McCarthy said. “I fully support Julie as the best candidate for our next Pierce County auditor.”

Raised in a military family, Anderson’s passion for public service began at an early age. Her recent experience includes involvement on the Law Enforcement Support Agency board, Women’s Political Caucus, YWCA of Pierce County and Historic Tacoma.
