Boys win opening game, will face Anacortes

The Fife boys won their first-round state tournament game against Hockinson, 54-44, and will play Anacortes next in the quarterfinals March 12 at 4 p.m. at the SunDome in Yakima.

Coach Mark Schelbert credited the play of Damien Fisher, Dustin Yarrington and Nieko Thigpen in the win. Cameron Hayes led the Trojans in scoring with 12 points.

Last week the Trojans needed to rally to defeat North Mason, 52-50, in the district title game at Henry Foss March 7.

The Trojans trailed North Mason at halftime, 28-21. But in the third quarter they outscored them 17-11 to make it close before overtaking them to win by two.

Hayes led the Trojans with 15 points. Yarrington had seven.

In their previous game in the district tournament, the Trojans defeated Sequim, 54-43.

Fife got 12 points from Fisher. Thomas Darneille had 11, and Hayes and Thigpen each had 10.
